Today, we learned how to use clustering as a brainstorming strategy before responding to any writing prompt. Think about today’s practice. How did clustering help you generate ideas, examples, etc for the prompt? What part of the clustering process was most useful to you, and do you think you would use this strategy when planning an AP Lang essay? Explain.

Prompt Response:  CLustering is a strategy where you build out branching topics to come up with ideas. Clustering can help me generate ideas by thinking of more broad information, and not limiting myself to a few examples. It also very clearly lays out all of my information which allows for the writing portion to be way easier. Perosnally I am snot sure that I will be ujsing the clustering process as it takes up a large ammount of time. i already get out ideas very slowky, and I fear that by using this method I will not have enough time to complete the exam. Yesterday, you constructed a full AP Language argument essay. Think about the experience from beginning to end. What part of writing the essay was easiest for you, and what part was the most challenging? Why? What is one thing you would do differently on your next argument essay?

Prompt Response:  The easiest part of the essay was to choose where I stood on the topic at hand. The part that I struggled wih the most was synthesyzing evidence for the each sub topics I chose. If I were to write the argumentative essay again I would focus on stronger evidence, and more of it. I was lacking six pieces of evidence so if i focus more on various evidence I will score better. I also would want to practice brainstorming for my essay better so it is easier to get all of my information out onto the page. Summary: Today we spent the period writing an argument essay for ap Lang Reflection:  I can use this to see hwat aspects of my writing need to be improved upon to recieve full points on the AP Exam. This will allow me to pass the exam and hopefully recieve a college credit for an english course.

Describe a time when you felt like you truly belonged. What created that feeling?

Prompt Response:    A time I felt I tru;y belonged was when I went to hang out downtown with my friends. This was a day that was packed with super fun activities, but most off all we were able to laugh all day and enjoy ourselves no matter the situation. For me to feel like I belong i need people to match my energy, and my friends totaly matched my energy for the entierity of the day whih was such a blessing. This was a day I will not forget, and the joy I experienced will always be amazing. Summary: I was absent from class today Reflection:  I was absent from class today

Think about a time when you completed an assignment without fully understanding what the teacher was looking for. How might knowing the “ins and outs” of a rubric change the way you approach an assignment? Connect your experience to what you learned today about the AP Lang Argument Essay rubric.

Prompt Response:  A time when I received work and I was not fully sure of all the ins and outs of it was when I had to complete the AP Seminar test. I had to create a research paper and argue for why a specific problem leads to something. The teacher was not very clear on what the rules for the assignment were, what we were supposed to argue about, and what the final paper was supposed to include. If I would have known The rubric better I likely would have scored much higher on the test, and I likely would have had a much easier time structuring and writing the full research paper. This would have greatly helped me, and hopefully by going over the rubric for the AP Seminar test I am more knowledgeable on what to write. Summary: Today in class we reviewed our class mates feedback for our arguments paragraphs Reflection: I can use what I learned in class today to better my writing and make it more diverse. This can lead to more academic writing that reads better to more people...

Think of a time when you or someone you know used informal language in a situation where formal language may have been more appropriate

Prompt Response:   A time when Informal language was used when it was not supposed too was while I was watching a student present in AP Seminar. The student was presenting a research report in the form of a slideshow in front of the classroom. As the student was presenting they were using words such as "yoo," "nah," "bro." These were all slang terms that were not appropriate for the presentation and made the student seem far less knowledgeable about the subject at hand. I can remember this whenever I am trying to seem knowledgeable about a topic as something to look back at and remember how Informal and awkward the language was whenever I have the urge to use it. Summary:  Today in class we further re-evaluated out evidence in our Argumentative paragraph. Reflection:  I can use what I learned in class today to choose between what kind of evidence I will use on the AP Lang test. I learned that the most effective evidence is lived experience.

What is one idea, suggestion, or approach from a group member that improved your paragraph or changed the way you thought about the argument?

Prompt Response:  A group member suggested that instead of just explaining the situation that happened with the grandmother we should instead go more into depth about what experiences he was missing out on. This idea made the argument clearer, and better outlined our argument. We talked about how a we will never be able to experience once in a lifetime experiences with our dead loved ones like a wedding, graduation, etc. This change to our argument made our paragraph less repetitive and helped us not just state the obvious.  Summary: Today in class we took notes, and surveyed our arguments to ensure that they had proper formal language. Reflection: I use formal language in all of my academic writing. When I proactively practice using this language In my writing it will help me become a better and stronger writer.

Write about something you’ve always been curious about.

Prompt Response:  I have always been curious about how people choose their careers. I have always been an indecisive person, and often I am asked "what ot you want to be when you grow up. I am always honest and just answer with "Im not sure yet." I hear so many stories about how so many people are passionaite about things from when they are young, and I have had hobbies and interests, but I have never been so interested in something for such a long time that I would want persue It. I wonder how people can find something so boring a thing they would want to do for the rest of their life especially when it takes up an overwhelming majority of someones life.  Summary: Today in class we proof read an argumentative paragraph we wrote as a group. Reflection: I can use what I learned in class today to see how to fix my own writing. If my writing can be more clear and consise then I will be able to have stronger arguments.

Today, we learned how writers create a clear line of reasoning by connecting a claim, evidence, commentary, and conclusion. Which part of building an argument is most challenging for you, and why?

Prompt Response:  The hardest part when creating a line of reasoning is formulating evidence. I find this tricky because it is hard to find the proper and viable evidence for every scenereo. I can think of fictional situations, but that is just an inference, and therefore not credible for a AP Test. Hopefully over time I will better be able to recall situations that are applicable. Once I ab able to better this skill I will be more able to create great lines of reasonings. Summary: I was absent Reflection:  I was absent

Write about a fear you have overcome.

Prompt Response:  I have overcome my fear of the dark. When I was younger I was incredibly scared of the dark. I would run into my bed scared after turning off my lights, refuse to take out the trash at night, and not want to be alone in the dark. This fear would cause me constant anxiety whenever night would come. One day I decided that I had had enough so I decided that every time I had the urge to to run away from the dark into "safety" i would force myself to walk extra slow. This eventually conditioned me into staying calm in the dark, and now I am over my fear of the dark Summary: Today in class we went over notes about how to write with a better vocabulary. Reflection:  This can help my writing appear more professional. Having more professional writing can help improve my ap scores.

Think about the word or phrase you find yourself using the most right now. What is it, what does it mean, and why has it become part of your everyday vocabulary? Explain when you typically use it and what your choice of this word or phrase might reveal about you.

Prompt Response:  A word that I use the most is genuinely. This is an adverb that is used to express complete honesty. This word has become a part of my every day vocabulary because it is a good word when you want to exaggerate something, and make something important. However I have gotten so used to using it that I find it annoying, however I am unable to stop using it. I typically use it when I am trying to explain my feelings about something, and I use it to show when I truly do feel something. I am trying to use other words in place of genuinely. Summary:   Today in class we did a vocabulary assignment out of a textbook. Reflection:  I can use what I learned in class today to better my writing. Having more advanced writing will better my chances in life.
